Reminder regarding termination of the Pharmacy First Common Ailments Service

Reminder regarding termination of the Pharmacy First Common Ailments Service

August 27, 2019

From Andy Pickard
Pharmacy Advisor – NHS England and NHS Improvement

Following my letter dated 2nd July which gave formal notification that the Pharmacy First Common Ailments Service would be decommissioned on 1st September, I am writing to remind contractors that any outstanding consultations, or new consultations undertaken this week will need to be entered onto the PharmOutcomes module by 23.59pm on the 31st August 2019 in order for payment to be made.

Please note that the above letter of 2nd July specified the last date for supply and recording to be 30th August – this has now been confirmed with NHSE as definitely being 31st August.

The module will be de-activated at this point so retrospective claims for payment will not be able to be processed, so please check that all relevant claims have been made.
All pharmacies should have received and should be displaying materials issued by the Staffordshire CCGs regarding self-care, and pharmacy staff should be using these resources to advise/support patients accordingly. The introduction of the Community Pharmacy Consultation Service (CPCS) as part of the new contractual framework places an increased emphasis on self-care, so it is important that all staff start to familiarise themselves with the requirements of this service.

All other NHSE&I Enhanced Pharmacy First Services will continue to be commissioned as per the current contractual period, and will be reviewed in due course.
If you have any queries regarding this or other pharmacy services, please contact me via email at a.pickard@nhs.net

Yours sincerely
