MURs are being phased out over the next two years.
Numbers that can be performed and claimed:
1st April 2019 – 31st March 2020
This year the number of MURs which can be claimed for is a total of 250.
In the interim arrangements there was an allowance to complete up to 200 MURs between April 2019-Sept 2019. It is possible that not all pharmacies have yet reached the 200 but the announcement of the new CPCF has clarified how the 250 MURs for 2019-2020 can be spread out.
Max amount for full year = 250 MURs
Max amount that could be performed and claimed 1st April to 30th September 2019 = 200 MURs
Number which may be completed from 1st October 2019 to end of March 2020 = 250 MURs minus the number completed in the first half of the year. This means your total for the whole year adds up to the maximum allowable ie 250
The total number of MURs which you can complete in 2020-21 is 100 MURs. The service ends at the end of 20-21 financial year.
Changes to Target Groups from 1st October:
Remember -You need to update your SOP
New targeting requirements apply to Medicines Use Reviews (MURs) conducted from 1st October 2019, so community pharmacy contractors will need to update their standard operating procedure for the service to reflect these changes.
Seventy percent of MURs conducted from 1st October 2019 to 31st March 2020 must be within the following two target groups:
- patients taking high-risk medicines
- patients recently discharged from hospital who had changes made to their medicines while they were in hospital
From 1st October 2019, patients with respiratory disease and patients at risk of or diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and regularly being prescribed at least four medicines are no longer target groups for MURs.
